Kind of along the same line, the Perseid meteor shower is this weekend and should peak Saturday night after midnight. Sunday night should also be good. The radiant or place in the sky where they come from is fairly high in the Northeast. Unfortunately, we will be just past full moon this year and this will flood the sky making it not quite dark.

I'm not sure what exposure to try, maybe someone who has done this can clue us in a little more. I'm going to be hiking in the high mountains this weekend and so will watch from up there above 5000 ft. I will have a tripod and may try some shots just for the fun of it if they start coming pretty regular. Good luck to anyone wholikes to observe this very good meteor shower- Bruce
