I thought i would try a bit of birds in flight shooting with the Pentax DA* 300mm F4
so i went to the Western Australian Birds of Prey Centre at Whiteman Park
I didnt do very good at the flight part
but got a few close shots of the birds on the glove

Australian kestrel

Barking owl (they do say woof woof honest)

Brown falcon (look at the long toe for grabbing birds on the wing)

These are all birds that can not be released into the wild and so are used for education

The brown falcon was the only one that flew that day, and was way to fast for me to keep up , let alone for the camera to get a focus on it

(anyone visiting Perth I would recomend this show

Any of these could be the cover shot for a magazine.

I agree with Goldwinger's comment. I love photos of raptors, and all of these are excellent. However, the first one, the kestrel really jumps out to me. The shooting angle and feather detail make it really special.

thanks for the comments everyone

it was a fun experience even though non of the flying shots worked
(an excuse to go back and try again lol)
the kestrel was a character, you can tell by the glint in its eye

its good to be able to participate in the forum again

Do you have wild kestrels in Australia? I love your picture of it, they are cute birds (that is, if you can call any of the raptors "cute", that seems like an inappropriate word for them). I think I like the two owls the best - they always seem like such unlikely-looking birds.
