I have just purchesed a 4GB memory card for my Pentax EI-200. On switching on the cameraa message came up that the card needed to be formatted. I pressed the option to format only to be told that the card could not be formatted. Have I bought the wrong size memory card or is there something else I should have done?

This is an older digital camera, and, unless there have been firmware upgrades to allow larger memory cards, you are probably restricted to 2GB, or possible 1GB. Cards larger than 2GB require the FAT32 file format, and this camera wouldn't have had that in 2000. Steve's review has a link for a firmware upgrade, but that seems to do with picture quality rather than memory size.
