Default Opinions on these few if you can please?

some experimenting with apperature and TV setting on my camera. I particularly like the B&W.

You'd hardley think they were the same person......my 2 year old terror!!!!

What do you think?

I agree with you on the B&W. I love portraits sans color because I think the color is distracting. And yet, that Santa hat absolutely must be red, so the second photo has to be in color. Looking back and forth between the two pictures, I think the first is better compositionally. Maybe a little more contrast is all it needs.

(She doesn't look like a terror. My own experience started when I kept waiting for the Terrible Twos to show up. When they didn't, I heaved a sigh of relief. Then he hit three.)

I agree with Barbara on the portraits. I have found that bright red backgrounds and clothes create harsh results. I really like the BW shot.

I have to agree with both Barbara and Gibson. For portraits, I've always found B&W very flattering.

Bright colors (such as red) are alright, if it suits the individuals skin coloring.

In the second photo, I would have moved in tighter or taken the picture vertically, with no background distractions. However, there are moments that you haven't any time and they aren't worth missing...so snapping away is the only option.

There are ways of creating b&w with coloring (such as keeping the hat in color and rest in b&w) in an editing program.
I haven't tried it but have seen the results from others who have. I must say... some pretty interesting, striking and beautiful pictures have been done when combining the two.

I guess I have to be different. I like the second picture better. However, the only thing I find that I do not care too much for is the blurring of the back ground in the second picture. Did you blur this manually? The edges around the little girl are not very even. I think if the background was more in focus...this would of been a better picture (to me of course....) The first picture I do like....but I would adjust the contrast and make the image just a tad sharper. All in all....they are both very nice....but just need a little "tweaking." Keep posting pics!!!!

Thanks very much for your comments. I used Gausian blur but it looks like I went a bit overboard on the second pic!

I'll keep posting as I have any good ones......
