Default Herman Spoede, My Wife's Cousin

This photo was taken in 1943 at Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. He was the first pilot in his Marine Fighter Squadron to score a kill of a Japanese Zero. As fate sometimes works, this was the last photo ever taken of him just before he took off on his last mission during which he was lost after his group encountered a typhoon. As you have probably guessed by the name of his Corsair, he was a proud Texan.

Very good story, to me this is what photography is all about, saving the pass for all to remember.
Comments always welcome.
