A picture of my daughter taken when we went to visit the stables to see about getting some lessons.I was trying to get a blurred background effect, not easy on my fuji 5100!!

Hi Bonjen3,

Good to have your first time posting!! thanks. Welcome to Steve's (I see you've joined recently).

I like the backlit you captured, and it is well exposed (still seeing detail in both the horse and your daughter's faces!)

To get background blur, zoom to maximum (you might need to stand back a bit to get a composition like this) and choose lowest aperture number (e.g. f2.8 if you have it). With the fuji 5100 I'm not sure how much blur you could get with that... but try what I suggest is also get closer (also ask your daughter to stand as close as possible to the horse).. A DSLR (or SLR) definitely allows more possibility for "background blur".

Maybe increasing the contrast and saturation on this photo a bit might improve it, but you've captured a joyous and intimate sort of feeling between your daughter and the horse!
