I've been trying to capture some of the dahlia's in my garden....not real happy with what I manage. This is one of my favorites, color and shape wise. I took this shot about 6 feet from it, as it stood along in the afternoon sunshine.

Appreciate feedback

Hi Eddy Haskell,

Overall you have captured the flower nicely, though you lost some of the sharpness when sizing for the web or it is possible that the original isn't as sharp as it could be. I generally shoot these types of images RAW then apply the sharpness during processing.

Composition is okay, but I prefer a slightly different crop. There is a bit too much uninteresting space at the top.

I would also like to see some brightness on the background. Some out-of-focus green plants in the background would really bring this out. Of course, if your luck is similar to my own, there is usually something very ugly in the background when I find a pretty flower I'd like to shoot. Below is a quick edit of your flower.

Best regards,
Rodney Blair
