Hi. I took this picture while hiking near Starved Rock. I did a little post processing to touch up a few things but I can't tell if I oversharpened it or not. Something about the light glimmering on the wet rock around the waterfall throws me off. What do you all think? TIA

Plus they are crazy neon green which really contrasts against the more modest colours in the rest of the image. One thing that gets me is stuttering water, where the shutter speed is not fast enough to completely stop it, or not slow enough to make it seem more smooth. Of course that is completely personal taste. You're right about the shimmering rocks. Polarizers are great for this. eg. first image without polarizing effect, second image with polarizing effect.

Well - the only thing that stands out for me is the almost unnatural way the tree stands out against the background, but it's not worth worrying about - it's only on close inspection and the fact that you said you sharpened the shot.

Fantastic shot there Gerafix!, I'll have to try that sometime.

No, without the sharpening there would be less texture on the water. Great photos

I think it's a great photo. But for curiosity, I used Photoshop Elements 2 to slightly adjust the appearance ofthe rocks on each side of the fall by reducing the contrast and brightness and the highlights.

I left the fall itself untouched because I couldn't think of any way to improve it - the way you have it is one of the best pictures of falling water that I've ever seen.

Heres' the result -

Thanks for the critique and comments, everyone. Polarizer...touche....I even had one with me and it didn't dawn on me to use it. Live and learn.

I hear ya about the leaves. They stood out a bit in person but even more so when I post processed the pic. This picture is cropped down but there's actually a bridge above the falls where sunlight was coming thru and illuminating the leaves. Now that I think about it, I wonder if fall doesn't look as smooth due to the post processing I did.

Here's another pic I did of a different waterfall. The fall turned out better but I still didn't have my circular polarizer on. D'oh.
