help help help

I've only got two nights in Copenhagen and there's this lovely Opera House across a lake from me.

Here's how I shot the photo, but it's not very good. So help me do a better job asap!!!!!!!

Camera: Canon Digital Rebel XSi

Lens: Canon 28-125 EF 3.5-5.6

Actually shot at F5, 1/8 second, ISO 1600, 0 step, 50mm focal length, Shutter Priority, WB Auto, No flash,

I have two other lenses with me:

Canon 50mm fixed 1.8 f

Canon 18-50 IS EF 3.5 - 5.6

I would suggest putting your XSi on a tripod, if you have one available, and do a couple of different things. Go wide and show a little more of the surroundings. Try a longer exposure, in the 20 second range to smooth the lake surface. Try a five shot bracket starting with -2 stops up to +2. Then do an HDR when you get home.
Good luck and happy shooting.
