Hey all, this is one of my first shots...just got my DSLR, Pentax K10D (a bit old!)
I am very new to post processing, so admittedly I did nothing but auto enhance and sepia tone this picture...I don't quite know what else to do or how else I can improve it! (I'm using Aperture 3 as my photo editor and manager) |

Set a match to it?
Only kidding!!!! I would crop it a bit more tightly and also make it more into a letterbox style of print. |

yikes, harsh first feedback
is it really bad?!I understand the crop part, and while I kind of read the style of "letterboxing" I am not sure I really understand how to apply it in my program... is it just setting the aspect ratio a certain way? thanks for the feedback

That is one thing I so far dislike about pictures and taking so many, I can't tell what I like
I looked at your version and thought wow nice! Looked at the original and thought...I like that one too.....and now just have no opinion one way or the other Happens to me a bunch editing too, Ill try one thing or another, just to realize I don't know which version was actually better or not. I guess my eye will develop over time!

It a matter of personal style as to what you like or don't like in a picture. The problem with personal style is that it changes on you all the time.

I think I shot this Jpeg.... I was only out with my girlfriend, and we were just taking fun shots in jpegs, and then I took SOME nice shots, half I forgot to change to RAW, and half I didn't. On my camera, if I do pretty much anything, like stop shooting for the amount of time it takes to just go to sleep....it turns off RAW. I just figured how to set the default shot as RAW, but only do that when I am out searching for shots all day, not on a casual basis
and its good to hear other peoples personal taste changes a lot now I know Im not alone!

it does look better without the railing but now theres not enough water, go back and take it again and this time either move closer or knock down the railing
