haven't posted on this particular forum before, but i got some shots i really like on a recent trip to the coast, and wanted to see what others think... i wanted to capture the sort of ethereal, surreal effect of the light and shadow, and i loved the color of the setting sun shining through the mist on the beach. i 'm quite pleased with how it came out, but could i have done something different to make it even better? Panasonic FZ20, f4 @ 1/125, ISO80...

The shot is nice but if you are trying to emphasize light and shadow or etherealness. I think you could do better. The beach on the foreground does not add much to the overall shot. And the 'rocks' or whatever is placed right smack in the middle of the shot.

What I think I would have done is to go closer and do the shot in portrait and point the camera a little more to the left, catching the horizon and maybe the sun as well(I presume).

Or shoot landscape like you did and include a quite a bit more of the sea to the left.

This is a nice shot but emphasis on the glare/mist or etherealness is not enough.

Hehehe... just my opinion and I hope this helps.

p.s. shooting towards the sun or the likes might not be feasible for your cam. but you did ask for an opinion, right?:G

i think you could have walked a few steps to the right and caught the rocks and the sunset in the same frame.. a little more foreground would have helped too.. maybe shoot from a lower perspective and find something interesting to lead the eye into the frame.. not sure if you have enough wide angle capabilities on the fz-20 or not since i am unfamiliar with that model to do so..
