Have posted this under "Pets", but would appreciate a Critique - never tried a portrait before (figured it would be safer to experiment with the dog)

I think a little more even lighting to bring out the other side of the face a little. I like the expression although its on the edge of looking like fear. The image looks a bit grainy as well. I find that humming and a light whistle at the same time usually brings out this reaction.

The noise levels are a bit high on this one - but at the same time, it looks like some of the detail has been lost through the use of noise reduction. Try the shot again on a low ISO setting, you should get a sharper, cleaner image.

Thanks for comments everyone - think I got a little over enthusiastic with the sharpening & contrast tool! Wasn't sure if the shadow sidewould be consideredarty or just plain bad photography - you confirmed my suspicions (it's the latter!) Thanks again - really appreciate the time you guys put into commenting on the posts on this forum; learning a lot.
