Well...Here it is. I finally got up the courage to post my first pic. I have been taking pics for4 months now. This was taken with my Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 LD lens. I will be purchasing the Sigma 100-300 f/4 in about 3 months, but until then I am really trying to get the best out of this lens, and of course myself. Taken in AP mode, f-stop 4.5, ISO 200, SS 1/200, 161mm. Thank-you for looking & sharing your knowledge & advise.

I just wanted to let you all know that this is a redbellied woodpecker, not a ladder-backed. I saved the pic with the wrong file name.

first off, welcome to the forum!!

and i think you did a real good job with your first post! nicely composed with your subject off-center.. i would say my biggest suggestion is to not crop off the tip of hte tail next time.. and i think you could use a little sharpening on this one.. have you delved into post-processing yet?

will be looking forward to more!

I love the markings on this bird. You could almost play chess on them!

Welcome too!

very nice first post.

the only problems i see are the tight crop (looks like part of the tail feathers were cut)

and the subject is a bit soft.

the tight dof is ok, for the dead fall is farly uninteresting, and it emphasises the beauty

of the bird.

i think a little ps help will make this one quite a beauty!

nice shot, kath!

Thank you. To be honest , I was so excited to get a focus on this guy (before he flew off )that I forgot to zoom out, so his tail was cut off from the beginning!! I have photoshop elements2 and am just starting to explore all that it can do. I will try to get him again & next time I'll get the tail too!

Thanx, Kath
