I really like this pic, but....I feel that there might be too much shade on the trees to keep your focus on the bird. What do you think? Thanks. Kath

you were correct with your self-critique.. the strong lines of the branches and the shadows do tend to make the bird almost disappear within them.. you could probably crop a bit tigher and help it out.. also, the slightly quartering away perspective isn't as desireable as a full profile or a quartering-toward type of shot..

Bird shots are hard, they always land in invconvenient places with shadow/light and lots of branches and leaves.

In this case I think that a simple crop helps a great deal.

The high contrast shadow & sunlight can be worked around by shooting at a different time of day, but overall I think this is a pretty decent shot, good focus, sharp, the bird is clearly visible.
