Mine was only an opinion, these are always subjective. I never give my opinion as gospel truth. But the attitude you have adopted is better - keep questioning. I found out that opinion about the same picture can varying even with the same person just vary the time you post them. :G Will love to see more of your post. Regards. Jaki.

I really like these, especially #1. The brown works fine. It is, after all, the bird's natural environment. It's sometimes nice to see the details of the setting, i.e., the tree bark, etc. It works in these photos.

Number 1's the better of the 2 for me. I like the composition and placement of the bird in the frame, as well as the fact the body's linedup almost perfectly with the edges of that hole. You are already aware of the overall brown-ness of the image but, as others have said, that's their natural habitat. The bird doesn't 'pop' out of the photo but it still works really well.
