This has become an interesting thread - suprised there is no comment from Syd yet!

I personally think that the DSLR v Prosumer argument is a lttle too old to get into these days, especially with more recent technology. For examplethe newer "bridge" camera's such as the Fuji S9500/9000 do pretty well. Just see some of the pics posted here by Stevedak, SelNZ, Shadowiles, aaron et al. These cameras have all the features of a DSLR, but aren't. There's loads of threads on Steve's regarding these. Other Digicams do pretty well too, especially with macro. More recently there has been the release of fixed lens DSLR's, which makes you wonder where we're headed in the way of future cameras.

I understand where Jaki is comming from. I found frustration with my first camera's limitations and moved onto the very fine Fuji S5500 which offered full manual control and excellent quality images at a decent resolution, then moved on up to the S9500 which suits my needs just fine with image quality competing with the low end DSLR's.

I think the point being made by Jaki is about having that manual control coupled with quality images which arises from quality equipment. Although I've never met Jaki personally, I feel confident enough to say that I trust his sincerity and integrity implicitly. In short ~ Jaki is everyone's well wisher.

Regarding the original pic posted . . . as I said it was for me "fresh" and also the fresh keeness of the photographer is clearly evident. Something to be nutured and encouraged.
