I've been working with the same printer for about a year now, so maybe I can help. The extra blue instances and adds depth to landscape prints (101 cart). The gray photo (102cart) gives better mid-tone to shadow transitions, plus KILLER b+w prints in the gray scale black cartridge mode. When printing my photo's I use the following: Carts; 97,101,102. For paper I love the HP 13X19 Premium Plus Satin. The nine dye based inks in my opinion, deliver the best ink jet product out there.

Hope this helps...TDT
