I own a Pixma Ip4200 in Australia. Canon ink cartridge model numbers which I have used include PGI-5Bk - black ink tank, CLI-8C/M/Y/Bk- individual ink tanks

I'm currently in Japan and noticed that they have the Pixus ip4200 here with Canon ink cartridge model numbers BCI-7eC/7eM/7eY/7eBK/BCI-9BK. They are about 1/3 of the price here in Japan and I was wanting to buy a heap of them to take home. My concern is compatability after reading the ip4200 service manual which says that non-Japanese ip4200 are not compataible with Japanese ink cartridges. Is this true and is there a way around this issue

Thanks for your help

It happens with this forum if you hit back... Pain in the backside but that's why.

Anyway, the problem you're going to have is that your printer is NOT a Japanese model so you'd need, at bare minimum, to change the model type in the firmware which would require the service manual.

The next problem you will probably experience is that Canon are unlikely to provide an English language version of the driver.. On the MP500 this makes life impossible.. with the iP4200 I couldn't be sure..

The good news is you can try it and then see if you get anywhere but really my advice would be to only buy a set of these cartridges and see if it works.. You will probably have a contact who can buy more later if it does.. and if it doesn't you won't be out of pocket with a lot of useless cartridges.
