I own an i9900 and refill the cartridges often with few problems. I am about to purchase 2 of the new Pixma i9000 for the digital photography I teach. In order to save limited funds, I was hoping to refill the cartridges. I believe the new 9000 is a "chipped" machine, which will cause endless problems in the classroom; teenagers get flustered fast. Should I purchase the "old" unchipped i9900 or the "new" chipped Pixma 9000?

The only problems that could arise is that you will run out of ink in one tank and not know because to use refill ink in the Pro9000 you need to disable the measuring system.

Luckily Canon printers have clear see through tanks that allow you to manually check how much ink is left in them.
