Don't know if I can help you, but if you were to identify the printer, someone may.

I have the same error U071 with my brand new Canon Pixma MP 800 every time I turn it on. Called Canon Tech Support @ 1 800 828 4040. Apparently it is caused by a malfunction of the cartridge chip. Canon will replace the cartridge (s) at no cost under warranty. Hope this helps.

thanks for that.

today i bought a replacement ink cartridge (for the one that has been showing the error) and so far the printer has worked well with this in, but it has only been installed for about 2 hours so if the problem recurs i will take your advice.

also, i'll post back and let you know what happened.

cheers

I bought a new cart and installed about a week now and it is working like new. It reports the amount of ink in cart like it did when new. The chip must have failed. I can't get new cart for it as it has been refilled and they wouldn't warranty that.
