Default Do I buy the "older" Canon S900, or the newer i850

I'm about to buy my first photo printer and have narrowed my choice down to CANON. I will be using it solely for photo printing. My system runs on Win98SE.

Their new i850 is available here in South Africa, but their i950 is not. I can buy the S900 (for almost twice the price).

Is it worthwhile buying the "older" S900 ?

Regards, HILTON

if you can buy i850 DON'T buy s900.

i850 has better (more durable) printhead and the quality is the same as in s900. Also the droplet in i850 was reduced to 2pl. there is no micro banding in i850 and it is also a great all-arounder (with excellent photo printing capabilites).

The photos from i850 are almost the same as those from i950.

i850 is cheaper to run.

buy i850 - your best choice.

wayne123 . . . and you don't see a difference between the i850 being a 4 colour, and the S900 being a 6 colour?

I had both printers and must tell you that i850 prints even better than s900. The dots are very well hidden (thanks to its 2pl drops) and the whole photo is sharper and more vivid. s900 wins in terms of speed - it has more nozzles than i850 so it prints photos a bit faster (i850 is fast enough) - but only photos, nothing else - i850 is faster in any other type of printout.

Moreover, i850 doesn't have this micro-banding which is present in s900 (you can see the dot pattern).

S900 is also better than i850 @ gradiations (thx to its 6 colours) and skin tones - but the diffrence is very small and I must admit that I would prefer a printout from the i850.

If you use the right paper - the i850 will no doubt deliver wonderful printouts.
