I'm looking at purchasing an Epson 260 or 800 for printing on to CD/DVDs, probably the 800 as there seems to be so much bad news about the 260. I will be using this printer ONLY for printing on discs, and not that many, so I'm wondering: let's say I were to print 40 CDs and then nothing at all for 6 weeks. Would this type of intermittent usage lead to problems, such as clogging? If so, I guess I could just print a photo every few days, but I'm wondering if using such a printer RARELY is likely to cause problems. Second question: Epson makes the only consumer level printers that can print directly on to CDs, right? I don't have any other choice, right?

You might consider the Canon IP4300, it won't clog up and will print more cd/dvd on a full tank of ink.

http://www.outpost.com/ (search IP4300 for it)

It's on sale in store for $80 - 20 MIR = $60 or online for $100 - $20 = $80.

You do need to buy a tray for $20 but in the end it's worth it.

Where can I buy a 'tray' for the cannon IP4300? You say it is only $20 but I can't even find one at all.

Any ideas?

I decided to go with the iP4300. I got the tray on ebay. Comes with instructions for reconfiguring the printer using service codes to turn it into a European printer or an Australian printer (the U.S. printers, by default, don't permit the use of the tray - don't know why). I've done about 30 CDs and DVDs so far and everything has worked perfectly.
