I have a Epson R230 with a CIS system. It works great with the system. The problem I've been having is the head keeps going bad. Good thing it's under warranty. It's been replaced 4 times already. Epson doesn't know that I'm using a CIS system. It's usually the same color that goes bad each time. They said it's an electrical problem by the look of the nozzle printout. They've even replaced the board. It's working fine as of the moment.

Now I have another new R230 and here goes again the same problem. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have a 2200 and a C65 and no problems with those.

Is the second printer also fitted with a CIS?

Check that the offending cartridge actually has ink in it when the problem occurs — if there's an air leak anywhere the printer will pull in air instead of ink and the cart will eventually run empty, which is often mis-interpreted as a printer malfunction.

There can also be cartridge chip problems — usually these will disappear when the OEM cart is re-installed, as indeed should ink shortage.

Then again, Epson may be right — after all, they get their hands on it and should know more about their product than I do. :-)

Yes the 2nd printer has a CISS.All my printersare using CISS.The ink is there in the cartridge. I've tried printing with the OEM's and it too shows the bad head.

I just wonder if anyone has had a problem with the CISS and a R230. My R210 did that too. I was beginning to wonder if it was because I'm using a CISS. But my C65 and 2200 (2100) are working fine and have been for a awhile now.

No, so long as it recognises the cartridges, the printer won't know the difference between OEM and the CIS.

It might just be a connector that goes bad, but as I said before, Epson should know the product best (after all, they made it...)

I think the R230 is just the R200/210 in a different box — the same carts fit it.
