I believe the carts used by this machine are 40 and 41 black and color respectively. They can be refilled and re-used several times before the integral print head wears out.

This will need an override ( via the PC on screen warning box) to get the machine to accept refilled carts. It will also mean a loss of the ink monitoring facility and an invalidation of any warranty that may exist.

It is a process well worth doing considering the outrageous price of OEM (and compatable) carts.

The process is well described in a nifty forum.

I have canon CLI-8 and PGI-5 cartridges in my mp830 and refill with dollar store ink then send my chips to cpreset box 341241 mil. wi. 53234 with $1.00 per chip and SASE, email is cpreset@msn.com . I always get them back in 3-4 days. And i found a good trick to clean my pixma heads is a small hand steam cleener
