Default CD Printing not available on US model Canons

Does anyone have any additional information on why Canon is unable to bring the CD Printing option over to the US. Since I've had the time to read the review over at Photo-I UK and CD printing is definately an option I would be willing to pay for. Also as a side note would there be any real difference in getting a UK model and running it on a US machine and is there any real cost effective methods for that?

According to text in the review on that site, it states: "The CD-R/DVD printing option is not available on the i860 printer (US market), this is a Patents issue and beyond Canon's control."

Hpw is this a patent issue if the Epson 900 has the capability to print on CDs? Sounds like the i850 and the i950 are no different (in terms of printing capabilities) than the new models.

What you're forgetting is that the Epson 900 was not the first Epson inkjet to print to CDs. The first was the 960, which did not have CD printing capability in the US for the first 6 months after launch for the same reason. Even though it's European equivalent (the 950) was launched 3 months earlier with CD printing from the start.

My point is that it took Epson ~6 months to deal with this patent issue. Unless Epson have negotiated some sort of exclusive license, I would expect that Canon are working on obtaining the same rights as soon as possible.
