RED prints BROWN. I deep cleaned by maintenance, and soaked the printhead in ethanol. No change. Do I need a new print head? Thanks. John

Welcome to the forums John.

I've moved your question down to our Photo Inkjet forum so that you're more likely to get some useful responses.

Ok... I'm going to make a small bet with myself that you'll kick yourself if I'm right.

Check that you haven't put a Light Magenta (LM) cartridge in the Magenta slot and that all other cartridges are correct.

EDIT: Turn out you have PM (Photo Magenta) so it could be that instead, either way the trick is to check carefully that you have the right cartridges in the right slots.

I had this sort of issue once before with an iP4000 where an LM cart was used in the M slot.

I can't see any reason why this should be a printhead issue though.

Thanks for the reply.

All the cartridges are correct, however.

Only other thing I can think of then is a soiled printhead or problems with your colour profiles..

Thanks, again.

Today, red prints purple, green prints light blue, and blue prints blue. I have run through all the color profiles associated with the printer, and there is no difference among them. I rebooted and no change.

I have cleaned automatically and manually with ethanol, and the nozzle check shows no streaking.

I went through much the same thing with two ip4000s. A new print head fixed one but not the other. Don't really want to spend $70 on a new print head unless there is a good chance it will fix it.

Any more ideas other than buy a new printer? Thanks.

John :?

Are you using genuine Canon inks?

Besides a misplaced cartridge and a clogged printhead, this kind of problem can also crop up when you mix and match inks from different suppliers.

I decided some time ago to stick with genuine Canon BCI6 cartridges and have never again had the problem.

Based on the colour mixes it sounds like one of the cyans is mixing with other colours... On that basis it does sound like the head is toast...

Getting a new one seems to be recommended from Canon direct if you're in the USA... There was some info on it on nifty-stuff forums recently about it. Whatever you do, DO NOT touch inkcessories or OSD as they're otherwise known...

Bunch of uncommunicative spam festering scum nowadays (ie: not in my good books).

Hope that helps.

It was an ink problem after all. The magenta cart was almost empty and the yellow was non-canon. Replaced both - prints fine.

Thanks for the replies.

John:-)
