Default S900 compared to i860 and i960

I own a S900 and it's awesome. I've printed over 1,000 photos and absolutely no problems! I'm looking to upgrade because the S900 is limited to loading one piece of 8.5 X 11 glossy photo paper. The i860 and i960 accomodate 10 sheets. I understand the i860 prints text faster than the S900 (and i960), and I like that no "photo" color cartridges are required. Apparently the i960 prints text slower than the i860 and requires "photo" ink cartridges. Questions: 1) Does the i860 print photos as fast as the S900? And as good quality considering it doesn't use "photo" colors? 2) Does the i960 print text faster or slower than the S900? I presume its photo quality is as good as or better than the S900. Thanks for the help!

Default One page at a time?

Never heard of this, at least not from my brother-in-law who's had an S900 for a year and a half now.

What exactly is the issue with the single page feeding?

I think the head on the 860 dedicates more nozzles to black for text printing so it will print text faster. Many have said that the prints from that printer are indistinguishable from the i960 but I'm sure results will vary based on image content. The i860 is really intended to be a dual role printer and the i960 is intended to be more of a photo printer, as was the s900.

Canon's specs state that the S900 can handle 1 sheet at a time. Here are the specs from Steve's review (Canon's website is listing specs on current models now but it stated the same on the S900 when it was current - 1 sheet only).

Honestly, I've never tried to load multiple sheets because I thought it may cause a jam. Does your brother-in-law load multiple sheets with no problems?

I too must have printed 1000 8 x 10s on my S900. I usually load 4 - 6 sheets at a time. ie the number of prints that I want, and have had no problem with jamming.

Let me add that I use www.inkjetgoodies.com bulk ink and www.redriverpaper.com # 1656 68lb paper giving me a print cost of about 50cents/page. Hard to beat.

You are better off with the i960 for photos and the i860 if you do much printing of text.
