Default Streaks in HP prints

My 722C printer starting making streaks in pics. I printed one, and it was fine. About ten minutes later, the second print had the streaks. In the darker areas they are quite noticable. You can see them in this picture.

I suspected I was low on black ink (color cartridge was brand new). I used a refill kit on the black cartridge. The streaks still appeared. A few friends told me to run the cleaning function till the streaks go away. Tonight I did that as well as clean the print heads with a cotton swab that was damp with alcohol (not dripping wet)

I just ran the clean and the prime functions twice each. The first test print looked like it did the last time I ran the function. Tonight, each time I ran the functions, the black portions of the test pages got worse. You can see it here:

There are streaks in the black portions, so I assume that is the source of the streaks in my color prints.

Since I used a refill kit, is there someting wrong with this cartridge head? If so, I guess this is the drawback of refilling cartridges.

Mine does the same thing even though it prints a perfect cleaning page. Black ink flowing out of all the nozzles. I'm about 2 seconds away from heaving the 722 and getting a new printer. I'll probably go Canon or Epson because HP still doesn't make a printer with separate ink tanks for each color. I considered an HP 5160 but the photo cartridge holds about half as much ink, 17ml vs 30ml for my 722's cartridge, yet costs about the same. I'm looking at the Canon i560 unless someone gives me a good reason not to.

Now that I think about it, mine at one time made the streaks while still printing a decent test page.

When was the last time your cartridges were replaced? I am now wishing I had gotten a new black cartridge rather than refilling this one. Aside from the streaks, the printer quality is great, especially for a printer this old.

And what is the deal with HP? How many different models do they have on the market? I can't keep up with them all, and I just went straight to Epson and Canon while shopping.

I actually haven't changed my black cartridge and I'm not sure I want to spend $45 for a two pack of them at Costco. Color cartridge is brand new. I'm tempted to get the Canon i560 after reading many good reviews on another board. I'll just have to ditch the HP paper I just bought though.

A friend of mine has a lot of refilled HP cartridges at his work. He had none for the 722C... I am tempted to just get a Canon and quit worrying with this one and spending more money on it.

Decisions, decisions! And I want a new camera, too. I may holdout on the printer and get a camera. :?
