Default Epson "Optimized DPI" ?

I am hoping to get a little education on technology here.

As we all know, "DPI" numbers are not the be all end all of printer quality.

I was curious if anyone had information on what the Epson "optimized dpi" actually means (R200, R300, et al). What does it mean? How do they get this number? and so on.

Thanks!
