Default Canon i960 and envelopes...

I'm having a strange issue when printing on envelopes with the i960. Every time I print, there are ink smudges/streaks on the envelope after it comes through the printer. I'm not sure if the envelope is picking up ink off the roller, or if the newly laid down ink is smudging as the envelope moves through.

Anyone else ever see this? Suggestions?

I don't do envelopes in my !960, but you might want to check to see what your dry time is set at. You could set it to a quicker dry time. If it only happens on the envelopes and not on other papers, then it is unlikely that the issue is with ink on the rollers. Could just be that the ink isn't being absorbed well onto the type of paper in the envelope

Are you changing the paper thickness lever? I forgot to change that once on my i9100 and had the same thing.

Paper thickness lever? Hmmm...maybe I should have read the manual. :-)

Thanks so much! That's probably the problem.

I have the same problem with my i960. The online manual says to flatten the leading edge of the envelope as much as possible before inserting. There is no thickness selector mentioned, as this printer is designed for photo printing primarily. The smudges are from the edges of the print head thathave ink residue and rub it on the envelope as the head passes over the puffy envelope. You can hear it rubbing as it prints. Most of the smudges for me are in the return address label area and I cover it with a label.

There is a simple fix--before printing on the envelope, just go to your print setup and change the "Paper Type" to "Envelope". Problem solved--no more smudges!

Thanks for the tip. I have never seen the envelope paper type, but I shall try it!

I wonder if Canon makes "Glossy Photo Envelopes"

Maybe the post office would have a problem if we start putting too many photos on our envelopes.

Unfortunately, the Letters and Envelopes wizard inOffice 2003 does not allow access to the printer settings for paper-type (only envelope size).

Before you print using the Envelopes wizard in Word, all you need to do is open up the "Printers and Faxes" panel in Windows, choose "Select Printing Preferences", and select "Envelope" in the Media Type pull down. THEN go to Word and print.
