Default Printer ink?

I have an HP deskjet 940c for every day use and a Epson stylus photo 785epx for photos. Both do a great job but goes through the ink.Has anyone used other than OEM ink for photos, how good of quality are the prints,or should I stay with Epson ink?
Also with all the ink co's. listed on the internet any recommendations?
Thanks,

Default Ink refills

I refill my own ink cartridges and purchase supplies from www.inkcarts.com. I have also purchased refilled cartridges from them and they were excellent. A 45A cartridge is $15. I refill the cartridges at a cost of about $5 per cartridge. SAMS also has refill kits, but I do not know the cost. My son-in-law has used SAMS refill kits.

I only use Epson ink up to date. I have a fear to damage the head ( witch is fixed on Epson, not coming with the catridge as HP) with not-Epson fill up ink.
May be next time I will try fill up ink.
