Default Colors are off on HP 722C printer

I have Windows XP and have been using this printer on this system without any problems, untill I changed the color print cartridge. After that when I print out a photo or any thing that has color, I get a slight violet on skin tones and even the whites or tan colors in the photo has some violet in it too.
The pictures look very good on the monitor, but are poor on the printer.
The cartridge is new, HP # C1823D, that is the type I have been using, and what the printer call for.
There does not seem to be anything on the printer software to "set" the colors correct, except the two options "let host or let printer set colors", (words to that effect) I tried both, still no change.
Thanks for any help.
Bill

Sounds as if the new cartridge is defective.

Yeah thats the biggest problem with the HP cartridges is that every one is different so you have to align the colors for each one.

Default I Fixed IT!

It WAS the cartridge, but I was not going to pay $35 for another one, I got a refill kit and put ink in the yellow part of the cartridge, it had ink in it and in fact came out of the hole almost as soon as I inserted the syringe in it. I still had no yellow comming out of the cartridge, so I looked at the instructions for the ink kit again, it said to push air in the hole with the plastic tip on the needle, and now it works great, no more purple people!.
Pays to read the instructions.
Alignment is no problem very easy on the HP 700 series.
Thanks all for the information.
BTW, I think the ink refill kits are the way to go.
