Also, what do you mean by "I think the problem is that the head assembly gets too big for the case if they try to make a 6+1 printer, this is also why their is no i9900 equivalent 8 1/2 x 11 printer." Some printers cannot print 8 1/2 x 11 pictures?
When the printer is not in use, it moves to the right, or home position, and it is then capped. If there are too many ink cartridges, and more cartridges means more nozzles, and since the actual chip that holds the nozzles of the head is always in the centre of the assembly, there might not be enough room where the home position isto cap the head without having toextending the case.

The capping is one problem but it alsoneeds to get far enough to the right and left of the paper for the spray to come from.

Here is the head on a i9900

I just bought the printer from NewEgg. Hopefully it'll turn out to be pretty nice.

How much noise does this printer make? Here's a video of my current printer: http://download.35mb.com/azure/printer%20video.avi It's kind of slow and loud. How much of a difference will there be between my current printer and the iP4000?

I've read that iP5000 will be able to achieve a resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 dpi with droplets as small as1 picoliter, but it will still use the same ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system as the iP4000. Sounds crazy, but we'll see if it's true when the press release appears.

It's true...

Like Azure I am also about the buy the ip4000 (got in an amazon shopping cart right now! $133 free shipping). My Canon S630 just crapped out on me, but it was good tome while it lasted. I have been doing online comparisons: ip400 vs. canon i900D vs. canon I960 vs. HP 7960W . I stumbled across this forum when doing so. I have pretty much settled on the ip4000. I am non-technical so to be sure I gotta ask if I will be able to use the same USB cable w/the ip4000 as I did w/the S630? Thanks.

Any chance of Cannon coming out with a "grey" ink for improved Black and white??? I really think the very low ink usage of the "red" and "green" on their 8 color models show that a "grey" would be more valuable to the print quality. And besides, does not the hp7960 use the grey in the color prints as well????

I found prices for the yet to be released pixma printers. I found these via google on a canadian reseller's site. These are US dollars. There was no description on the site (for these products only) and they were merely listed as backordered. Could you folks make a guess, based on these prices, what these printers would look like?

IP 5000: $201; IP 6000D:$181; IP8500: $352; IP 4000R (no cables): $230

It looks like Amazon just posted the specs for the ip6000D ($199.99 list). Looks like it is a repackaged i900D (with duplex printing).
