THIS IS WHAT CANON SAYS:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support.

Globally, Canon is comprised of many different sales divisions. Each
sales division makes their own business decisions as to the products
and
features they feel will help them achieve their goals and best suit
their market. Canon USA has made the decision not to include the
CDR/DVD
printing feature on consumer printers sold in this market.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

DON'T YOU JUST HATE HATE HATE SALES MEN !!!
From the news sites I've read about it they chose not to pay the patent for the rights to print on cds for this line of printers. The patent is held by Phillips.

From the news sites I read from around the initial press release the US versions of the Pixma printers do not have CD printing capbilities simply because Canon USA did not want pay for the rights to do so. Phillips holds the patent for CD printing here in the US.

Thanks !

That is 5.16 x 9.4 inches.

I tried many variations of rounding the dimensions and "cd-r tray b" as well as "cd-r tray" and it did not work.

But I will try again when my printer gets here in two days, it probably wants a handshake from the printer.

WooW ! I just found it in the dimentions in the manual.

131.0 cm x 23.88 cm, slightly different I will try that tommorrow.

I don't know why they use "cm" on Macs I thought only scientists use the metric system in the USA and they use mm just like Europe.

The software probably wants to see cm and I will need the printer to get that, or maybe that is why it won't work, we will see.

I have received my ip3000 and installed it, with it hooked I tried the Canon CD software using the correct dimensions but it still would not work so I am not going to work on that anymore.

I have created a jig for printing CDs with pass-though method.

I am working from and extending the work summarized by kirky99 and accredited to AlvinLee, thanks AlvinLee.

I am printing from GraphicConverter on a Mac.

Here is my Jig:

The dimensions of the jig are as follows:

The clear plastic is the same size as a letter size page.
The top part that has no blue foam is 1 inch tall.
The hole for the CD is 4.75 inches.

An improvement would be to have a slightly squarish circle so that the CD fits very snugly.

I bought the parts for the jig at the crafts store, Michael's, the blue is foam the same thickness of a CD it had adhesive backing. Then the "Clear Template Plastic" that is on top is the clear plastic sheet that the foam was pressed onto.

The hole for the CD has clear plastic behind it but the pict does not show it.

The jig is too stiff or too thick to be used with the bottom paper tray, so the way you use it is to print to regular paper, flip the lid when you hear it start to print, then pull the paper out and push the jig in place by flipping the rear door down.

You have to push with both hands and giggle side to side a little the white rollers are difficult to get underneath.

The paper disk with the monkey on it is a disk of paper that I put in it to print and it worked fine accept the printing is streaked and blocky because the paper moves while it is being printed.

I don't have any disks yet they are in the mail but I need to keep on printing with my document template that goes with the jig and adjusting where the disk is located until it hits perfectly on target.

The size of the document is 6.79 x 9.39 that is just what this app prints on letter size.

So the steps for using this system are as follows:

1. Print the template document.

2. When you hear or feel the print head beginning to print, it will go rup rup rup because it is a zig zag, flip open the top of the printer, be fast!

3. Flip the rear door open and pull that piece of paper out of the back of the printer and push in the jig, when the top edge of the blue meets the front rollers of the printer it is far enough forward, now insert the CD or your could have pushed it in with it in place it is actually easier that way.

You have to push the jig with both hands and side to side a little to get it to go under the white rollers but doing it with the disk in place makes it easier.

4. Flip the lid down and it prints.

The bottom line is this works with the papers disk and is consistent but it could be hard on the printer because of the thickness of the jig and the fact that the print head rubs across it, so this method remains experimental.

Sometimes, especially at first, the printer has made some funny noises printing with the jig so I often printed something to paper afterwards to make sure everything was still working and so far no problems.

I have found that errors can cause the printer to stop working totally, just shut it of and on and everything will return to normal.

But I will print many paper disks and adjust the exact location of the image to find the perfect spot for the image currently it is a bit high I think and may need to go a couple more pixels to the right.

Here is my document template that I am printing from:
