Could be this is just a bad printer. My wife purchased it for us for Christmas a year ago. Anyway, even after updating the driver to compensate for xp home sp2 - as directed at the epson site - the prints are still very dark with some colors quite vibarnt (reds, oranges) and others just kind of muddy (I've tried epson glossy photo paper and hp, both with similar results). Anyone have any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?

Its probably not the printer, its xp with the sp2 pack. Happened to me with my r300. Even though it seems like you installed the new drivers, Xp still may be reinstalling the old ones, hence you are still getting bad prints. Here's the link from explaining what to do http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...;noteoid=52186 Try uninstalling first, then reinstalling the drivers. If not, do the other option, and select ICM and no color correction. It should work for you. Let me know if you have anymore problems.
