My main reason for wanting a photo printer is for printing topographical maps for my hiking trips. I dont know if you have ever seen USGS topo maps, but they are green with very small writing and tons of countour lines. I am wanting either the Canon ip4000 (or 4000r), ip5000 or ip6000D. What would be better for this application?

If you use a dye ink printer you better laminate the print or you will surely get lost if it rains, which it always doeswhen I go hiking.

I just got a pretty good deal. The ip4000 was on sale $149 plus a $20 instant rebate and canons $20 mail in rebate. Well, the clerk accidentally gave me two $20 instant rebates, so I paid $109, plus I get the $20 mail in rebate. $89 total after all is said and done.

I was unsure of my decision to go with the wired 4000 instead of the wireless 4000r, but after such a great deal, I feel fine with my purchase and can buy a wireless print server that will work with any new printers I buy for cheaper than the 4000r would have been.
