Default Borderless printing question

I am proud owner of a Canon S9000 printer.
What a great printer!!!!!

This is the first borderless printer I ever owned.

I am curious as to how the printer can print exactly to the edge
of the paper without spilling ink into the printer.

Are there paper sensors in this printer to prevent this from happening?
Or is it just set up to print out at exactly 4 inches when doing 4x6's.

It amazes how it could do this without creating a mess inside the printer.

It actually has a waste tank on it.

It oversprays the edge of the paper and catches the excess ink in the waste tank. This means that you lose a small amount of the image at the edge of the print. This can be controlled by a setting in the printer driver.

How do you set the printer driver so it won't cut off part of the image? Is it possible?

Thanks!

Does anyone know exactly where this waste tank is located.
Is it user serviceable?

After taking a look inside the printer, I see there is a
sponge type material that runs the width of the printer.

It appears that this sponge material catches
the excess ink.

Is this somehow connected to the waste tank?

I just hope this don't become a problem in that
it has to be returned to Canon when it fills up.

I would rather take it apart and clean it myself..
