Default CannonS9000 for B & W photos?

I want the s9000 for color ..but also want to do Black and Whites, and I read somewhere that it doesnt work well with matte paper.
1. Whats the quality of B&W with this printer?
2. Any problems with matte?
3. Best printer for B&W if this one wont do the trick?
Ive been researching for days..any advice would be GREAT.

The S9000/S900 is not what I'd call a great B&W printer. When I first bought it I was running Win98 SE and it always seemed to mix a little cyan or blue with the black ink even when I checked the "grayscale printing" option. I am now running WinXP Pro and no longer have any color being mixed with black but the B&W prints don't have a lot of contrast to them.

The Epson 2200 does a marvelous job of B&W printing and even has two types of black ink, one for gloss and one for matte papers.
The Epson also offers a much wider choice of papers.

I would look around for the mac issues. Alot of it depends on which operating system you have and such.

Default why no B&W Examples?

With all the talk on how each of these printers handles B&W pictures how come there is no examples posted anywhere on this site. How about posting a printed B&W picture form the Canon S9000 & Epson 2200 an Epson 960 so we can see how they differ. It might not be such a big deal as you are making it out to be. I would like to see the difference.
