[11] Stuff to add

This is mostly stuff for my benifit. Stuff reccomended that I agree should be added to the faqs but has not quite made it. It's not organized.

[ip4200 info]
1. The inner pull-down tray has an accessible slot after removing the plastic piece.

2. The CD tray dimensions shown in this FAQ fit this slot.

3. The top two buttons on the front panel perform the Power and Resume functions as in the ip4000.

As a result, I decided to try to implement the FAQ on the ip4200. Everything on the FAQ worked except for the Destination Settings. When you press Resume multiple times to pick a destination, the following is printed out:

1 time JPN (cyan)
2 times KOR (cyan)
3 times US (cyan)
4 times EUR (cyan)
5 times AUS (cyan)
6 times ASI (cyan)
7 times CHN (cyan)
8 times TIW (cyan)
9 times JPN (pink)
(I determined this from trial and error and not from a service manual. Pressing Resume more than 9 times still gave you JPN (pink). Note that this is very different from the Destination Settings for the ip4000.)

I set the destination to EUR (since the UK is in Europe) and I was eventually able to print on CDs using the CD-LabelPrint software and the US printer driver that came with my ip4200 (after setting CDRSWITCH to 1 in the registry). It turned out that my problem was not in the setup. The reflectors in my homemade tray were slightly off and the printer did not recognize that a tray was present . Once the reflectors were corrected, I could print on CDs every time."

As did I on my iP6000, works perfectly, alignment is right on the money.
Used the double mat build for my cd tray, fits like a glove.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this.

This is 8 times, not 7. I know the service manual says 7 times, but you can't get a green light by pressing Resume 7 times. 5 times shows an orange light, and so does 7.

I'll have to double check that, do let me know the model number you're talking about.

Anyhow the big thread has been closed. I think it was all those people who were selling off trays. I've given up on the idea of keeping this thread to my self and would sugest moving any questions regarding cd printing here. I have enough posts in the begining that I can edit and add information, and am more than happy to link to anyone who makes their own pixma cd prnting page. Sure this didn't get as many views as the old one.

It makes me sad the big thread got closed but at the same time it was unmanageable and not practical for a new user to get the info they needed with ease.

New Questions:
1. What other software can be used to print onto CDs.
2. Does the new ip4200/5200/6600D printers use Tray type B or is there a new tray type?

The one thing I would suggest would be to add the installation steps for the rollers.

All the people I got rollers to had the same problem during the install ie: not hooking the tabs so the rollers are off the platform.

I think you had the same problem zakezuke. Along with myself...lol.

As far as software, I have found Discus to be a great program for those that use OSX.

Agreed. Would be spiffy if someone else could write a paragraph on the subject. For example I found putting in the tray first then hooking up the crollers compresses the springs which in turn raises the tabs resulting in the rollers being attached correctly.

It looks like the ip4200 has it's own rollers. I looked at a store model recently and lt appears as if the inner cover is blocked by an even smaller piece of plastic, easy to remove, yielding the path with rollers already attached. But what I don't have is data on the tray type... i.e. if there is a new "tray type c" for example.
