Default help - disappointing line-art printing on s9000

i just bought an s9000, but found i'm pretty disappointed
with the output. i'm a designer and while i print a lot
of photos (which look great on the s9000), i also print
just as much line and graphic art. i've tried every
combination of quality settings i can find (under mac os x),
but the line-art and text output is noticably pixelated.
the included powerrip demo helps a lot, but it's another
$300 and it's output is *still* more jagged than my cheap
epson c60 (at 720 dpi with fine print turned on).

the speed and quietness of this printer are amazing, but i
can't sacrifice print quality for it. does anyone have any
suggestions?

thanks, john.

Default more info on the printing problem

so i've done some more tests on the s9000.

the problem appears seems to be mainly in illustrator x.
if the art is printed as vectors, the resulting print resolution
is low (approx 300 dpi). if i rasterize the art within illustrator
and send it to the printer, it prints out beautifully. unfortunately
this isn't a feasible work-around for a lot of the work i do.

when printing from quark 5 (through classic), type and native
vector art also prints great.

my old epson c60 prints from either program just fine, so it's
not the apps.
