i currently have the canon i960 printer and am looking to replace it with something new. i like the i960 and want to stay with canon. the problem im having now is that im noticing the pictures are printing dark and with a purple tint to them. i purchased the extended warranty at compusa and i am able to upgrade to a new printer. im looking at getting the

canon pixma ip5000

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...amp;pfp=BROWSE

or the canon pixma ip8500

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...amp;pfp=BROWSE

has anyone had the i960 and upgraded to any of these 2 printers? how do they compare to the i960.

thanks

I got a Canon ip5000 a few weeks ago now having suffered with clogging and ink wastage at the hands of Epson, more than satifisfied with it, you can say I've been Canonised.

Its very quiet, its fast and economical, not one head or nozzle clean to date, I'm not sure the difference but it does have duplex printing, I've only tried this with text printing. The text as almost as good and indeed as fast as my Samsung ML1510 laser and that's after the laser has warmed up.

I could suggest having a look at http://www.photo-i.co.uk/ where there's comparisons against various printers and the ip5000 which might be of help.

I don't own any of these so take what I say with a grain of salt. According to the review on this site the i960 has more nozzles than the ip6000 but same resolution, would sugest faster printing speeds. The only benifit the ip6000 gives you IMHO is dual trays which isn't all that useful on a photo printer and CD printing, oh and a nice LCD display. The easy switch to small media 4x6 I'd find to be very useful.

The ip5000 is a general purpose printer, extra high resolution, but fewer inktanks. If you don't already have a text printer i'd seriously consider the ip5000.

Had it not been for CD printing I would have bought the i960 when it was on sale on tigerdirect for under $100 and never bought the epson. If you already have a text printer i'd just get another one. They are good fast and the colors while a tad punchy for my taste are smooth.

Before buying a i8500 i'd go into compusa with a digital camera and photopaper and jack in and see the results first.
