I posted the problem of how to center a photo on an A4 using the HP Image Zone software (v 4.0) that comes with the 8450. Somebody suggested using Irfanview - what I did.

But even Irfanview didn't give a correct positioning of the photo - better tha Image Zone - but not 100% OK.

Problem is :

LEFT MARGIN : you get 1.5 millimeters extra for free.

If youput a 140mm left margin in Irfanview, you get a 155mm margin when printing. Hardware or software ? Easy to correct manually with Irfanview - but you gotta know :?

Top margin = similar problem.:O

You need to multiply the desired top margin with a factor of 1.01695 to get what you want. Example: to get 285 millimeter of top margin, you need to put 290 (or 289) millimeter in Irfanview. I did not yet figure out of this multiplier works always or if one has to use a constant like for the left margin.

Conclusion: HP made a very good printer with the 8450 but don't count on the software or programmers to do the calculations to send a rocket to the moon. They probably will mix up inches with centimeters and forget about some hardwired parameters
