Default Epson 1270 prints black dots

Been using an Epson 1270 with latest drivers on a PC (Win XP Home). Whenever I print a line of black dots appears, with dots spaced about every 1 3/16" along the left side of the page (as it comes out of the printer), about 3 1/8" in from the left side (on 11 x 17 paper). Tried cleaning heads, running through several sheets of paper, to no avail. Any suggestions??? This also happens even when using 8.5 x 11 paper.

I suspect the dreaded "pizza wheel" problem. The one of the gear-like deices that move the paper through the printer has ink on it. I've never had the problem, but you'll have to get into the paper feed and clean it up. Sorry I can't be more specific, having never cleaned that part of the printer. Try Epson support for help on cleaning.

Thanks for the advice. I subsequently found this page that lists a number of cleaning methods. Tried the Windex/paper towel and it worked like a gem.
