I Printed a converted color photo on three different papers. A high gloss, a Satin semi-gloss and a matte. All three were with the camera profile and no color management. I use the Pixma IP 4000. I used the exact same settings I use for color, with the same papers, and used the Canon software wizard to select the canned settings.

On one paper I printed in color and the other I printed greyscale, and saw no difference in the two. First question: Is there an optimum way of printing a B&W photo.

If I had printed in color, all three papers would have given me almost identical color reditions. Yet, in B&W, all three were markedly different; the matte providing the best B&W print. Next question; is there a best paper for printing B&W.

Finally, what settings would be best used for B&W? I have considerable custom control which I do not use in color and would use in B&W, if I knew what I was doing.
