I for one am not all that bugged about the chipped cartridges. From what I understand they provide a realtime estimate of how much ink has been expended. Annoying at present for refillers but this will change just as soon as there are chip reseters. I would have prefered if they put the chips in the printer rather than on the cartridges.

Less Ink per cart plus they raised the price from $12 to $16 and we will need to change the carts more often. Then if you try and refill it the measuring gets turned off. Seems like a big win for Canon.

The old system was better for consumers.

Don't think that would work, some of the neccessary electronics need to be in the cart itself to measure.
