Hi Dan,

Not sure where you got the "better than CIS" recommendation as there's various different CIS types with strengths and weaknesses.

I'd be hard pushed to recommend a refillable cartridge over a CIS system though unless you were only printing relatively small amounts of work or just looking for an interim solution to suit your budget.

For what it's worth I'd recommend MIS Associates for their inks and their refillable cartridges as I've had experience of both. The inks are good quality, don't clog (any more than any other ink, including Epsons own).

You can purchase the Reset chips there too... but in my experience, if you're refilling carts you need to be sure you're keeping an eye on the ink levels and resetting manually each time you refill otherwise you run the risk of running a cartridge dry and killing your print head. Not a good move.

I hasten to add, I only recommend MIS on the basis of actual experience although other options are out there and are just as viable. The key thing is going to be ink quality so take your time selecting that side of things as it can make or break (read: clog, kill) your printer.

Hope that helps.

I know the cartridges in your picture personaly... Bought them from ebay. I was not pleased with them. Basicly they are 100% sealed so once you fill them a vaccum forms and they stop working after a while. Even if you burp them the ink only gets sucked from the lower chambers. you can poke a hole in the top but then it only sucks from the top chamber and when empty introduces airbubbles into the lower chamber which get sucked into the printhead. Seem like they would be just dandy for a CIS system

I'm willing to believe that they have improved the design since then, and corrected the spelling error on the word "label". It looks like the cartridges from your link are different, offering two plugs rather than just one.

But better than a CIS system? Vacuum filling is such a pain in the tookus I can't see how it would be better than a CIS. All things being equal i'd probally go CIS. Easier to fill, less mucking around with the cartridges.

These guys I can not reccomend unless they are part of a cis system.

Unless they are selling a newer model that has some form of vent hole.

What you linked to may or may not be spiffy... no idea. They at least some with syringes. But it's not possible to see how the chamber is setup from just that one photograph.

Key word here is "cheap"... Pay peanuts, get monkeys...

If you are going for a CIS from ebay then there are some who recommend the JWL brand on ebay.com (not available on ebay.co.uk for some bizarre reason).. There are a number of clones out there though (usually chinese) that are to be avoided so you have been warned.

Personally I'd go with MIS kit from www.inksupply.com but that's just because I've experience of using them and know they work... You pay more though.
