Default Epson 860

I have an Epson 860 and except for the cost of ink I'm very satisfied with this printer.I can print up to 1440 and except for speed I think it prints great pictures.
Now the question is...Do all the latest and greatest printers improve the prints that much as to be worth upgrading to a Cannon i950 or Epson 960?
According to my eyes I find it hard to believe the improvement, would be that much to justify buying a new printer.I know the ink cost would be a lot less if I bought a i950.
Your Thoughts?

Well your ink costs between the i950 and the epson 960 should be in the same ballpark. Epson 960 ink tanks are 10.99 at my local store canon i950 ink tanks are 11.95. They are compareable in size.

Personally for me I would opt to replace your epson 860 with an epson c82, CX5200 multifunction or an HP 6122 for everyday cheap printing and good photos and either get a hitouch 4x6 dye sub photo printer which does prints for .40cents a piece only 149. Or put your prints on a card or a CD and take them to your local costco which does the job for only .20cents a print.

Also Realise that If you choose a photo printer you will pay more for everyday printing than you currently do on your epson 860. A photo printer will generally run about .08 cents a print. A general use printer like yours probably runs about 3-4 cents a sheet maybe a little less. Rated for general use printing.

Those printers listed the HP 6122 and the Epson c82 have probably the lowest cost per page on the market. Canon follows behind with a slightly higher cost per page. This of course is all rated on black printing. I forgot the Color numbers.

HP 6122
Price 199
Independently Rated .02 cents a sheet

Epson c82/CX5200 multifunction
Price 129/199
Independently Rated .027 cents a sheet.

Canon I850-i550
Price 199
Independently Rated .038 cents a sheet.

Thanks for your response Gregersonsalvage,
I probably should have mentioned I have a Samsung ML-1210 laser for every day use and I usually only use my 860 for 4x6 prints with an occasional 8x10.

Maybe I'll check out the dye sub you mentioned and see if its Mac OS X compatible.Do they make dye sub printers that will print both sizes?
I will have to check these babies out.Of course price is always a factor.

Thanks much for the info!
