Default Epson 2200 vs. Canon i9100

I have read Steve's reviews for both the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 and the Canon i950. I know the Canon i9100 has not been released yet but it should be similar to the i950.

Epson 2200 pros:
7-Color UltraChrome pigment-based archival inks
light gray ink

Canon i9100 pros:
4800x1200 dpi

They both seem to be fast for what they are so print quality and longevity are the key factors. So does the Epson's 7 pigment inks at 2880 x 1440 give you a better photo than Canon's 6 dye inks at 4800x1200 dpi?

Or is there something better out their?

there is also a color gamut difference. the epson has a wider range then the canon thanks to the pigment based dyes

According to Canon the i9100 is -not- kin to the i950. It is simply the s9000 (same print head and engine) with the ability to do borderless 13x19" prints now.

Thats what I thought. Looking at the specs they showed up the same even the printhead part number was the same. Thanks for the clarification Steve.

Let me ask this question? I also am considering the i9100, but have recently started looking into the Stylus Photo 2200. Does the Epson also support Exif Print (Exif 2.2) in addition to Epson's own PIM?

The reason I ask is that I am looking to replace my S800 with a wide format because my wife is into scrapbooking--big time. I would be making prints up to the 13x19 with my Canon Powershot G3 and my wifes Powershot S230 for backgrounds for her pages.

Steve (if you see this), if the Epson supports Exif Print, have you tried prints from a Exif Print supported camera? What were the results when compared to your S9000?

Also,

Does anyone know of where you can or request print samples of the Epson Stylus Color 2200 and i9100 (when released)?

I don't want to spend up to $700 and hate the Epson.

I have requested print samples from the Canon website. CompUSA stores usually schedule Epson or Canon demo days where representatives from each co. actually fielded technical Q/As and give out actual printout from each printer as well.

I'l l have to try that. Here I am ready to purchase one of the printers this week or next, and according to Canon's site, the availability of the i9100 has been pushed back to June from April!! I could have died!
