I know this is most likely a impossible mission, but i really need to mod the drivers for ip3000 , to print on "other" materials via the cd tray port . ( think sheet metal, pcb's exc.) All the hardware seems to be there for this option, (up to 4.75"x23") but the firmware doesnt seem to allow anything in the b tray longer than 4.75 (cd size).

this may sound stupid to most people, but im sure there are those of us who realize what a tool this could be..

I agree with you.... not that i typcialy have this application but there are times which I would like to tell my printer to use the pigmented black and not the tri-dye. But even in the linux world ip3000 support is dependent on the binaries released by canon with the exception of TurboPrint, a commercial product IIRC. There may be some open source drivers for older canons with the proper tweeks might serve your purpose but I have no clue where to find them.
