I just got a new HP 8250 after 5 or 6 years with my old printer. The old printer was left powered on 24/7 and seemed to do fine.

Now that I have new printer, I am wondering if this is a good idea.

Anyone know any good reasons for or against just leaving the printer always powered on?

For: Some printers tend to do more head cleans if they're constantly powered on & off.

Your printer is instantly available at any time -- no setup routine.

Against: Money -- printer is drawing at least standby current 24/7.

Risk of damage from a power surge is increased.

Some electronic parts may fail earlier than they otherwise would.

Money...

:-DHP pretty much agrees with you.

I asked them about leaving the printer powered on all the time. They said it has a power-saver mode that minimizes power use. However, if you don't expect to use it for a fairly long time (say a couple of days or more) then power it off. They did say that it wouldn't hurt anything if I did choose to leave it on.
